The supspecie P. cinctra atropygialis however occurs in the northern of Queensland, north of Townsville, but only rarely into the northern part of Cape York Peninsula. General: In both sexes are the crown and nape grey and the hind neck and upper portion of back are cinnamon-brown. The lower back and wings are brown and the rump is crossed with black bar. The uppertail coverts are white and the tailfeathers black. Forehead, ear coverts and cheeks are off-white. Lore and throat are black, remainder of undersurface is cinnamon. Large black stains are on the lower flanks. Abdomen and undertail coverts are white. The beack is black and the legs and feet are flesh-coloured. A striking hint to distinguish between the sexes can be the throat spot, which is often larger and wider in males than in females. And characteristic for males are their typical call. The second subspecie POEPHILA cinctra atropygialis differs from the POEPHILA cinctra cinctra in its rich fawn colour on the back and the breast, with a lighter grey colouring of the head and having black uppertail coverts instead of white. Both species of Poephila cinctra are sometimes aggresive towards other birds. It is recommended to kept the pairs alone. Number of eggs: 5 - 6 Incubation period: 12 to 13 days Nestlings leving nest after 21 to 22 days
