LIGHT IST LIFE

The Importance of using True- Light or Day-Light illumination in the breeding room 30 years ago I decided to go for indoorbreeding with my birds. The breeding room was a basement room without daylight. Knowledge and experience about the importance of daylight I had not until then. I just knew, that many canary breeders already started in late december or early january with the breed and also worked with neon lights in the basement or interior. I also knew something about it, that you had to prolong the duration of light to more than 12 hours to get the birds into a good breeding condition. Actually, everything worked just fine. My 20 canaries began almost together with the nest followed by egg laying. After the first checks all the eggs were unfertilized. What had I done wrong? Also at the next attempt, I had the same result. During the year, I asked several breeders about possible reasons of the results. Some breeders advised me at that time the neon light of the company Durotest.
In the next breeding season, I installed 6 Duro-test Powertwist lamps and the result was very good. No failure as in the previous year. True-Light full spectrum fluorescent illumination were originally developed in the United States from the NASA in order to simulate natural daylights indoors. These were specifically developed for submarines and space shuttles, because the crews were suffering from diseases caused by poor illumination. The development proved to be a complete success, because the former common failures of the crews have been reduced drastically after the installation of the full spectrum illumination. From this time the crews were able to work for long periods without sunlight. Meanwhile, there are a lot more favorable offers with the reference to day-light or true-light, also called full spectrum light lamps
What should be considered: Natural sunlight at high noon in the equatorial regions is considered a CRI (colour rendition index) 100. The combination of sunlight and skylight combine to form a colour temperature of 6500 K (Kelvin). Like sunlight, full spectrum light contains the full colour spectrum of the rainbow - both those components which are visible to us and those which are invisible.  At the same time it is important that it contains the visible colours in relatively equal proportions and that the spectral progression is continual (i.e. that there are no gaps in the spectrum). The Food and Drug Administraion (FDA) in the USA has laid down the following criteria for full spectrum light. Colour temperature 5.500 - 6,500 degrees Kelvin (K). Colour rendering (Ra/CRI) greater than 90. The fullspectrum daylight lamps are available in the following wattages:. T8 Diameter 26 mm 18 W length   600 mm 36 W length 1200 mm 58 W length 1500 mm T5 Diameter 16 mm 14 W length   549 mm 21 W length   849 mm 24 W length   549 mm 28 W length 1149 mm 35 W length 1449 mm 39 W length   849 mm 54 W length 1149 mm 80 W length 1449 mm

Not only the appearance of this neon lamp was something special, also the price. At that time I paid more that 30 €uro for one Duro-Test Powertwist lamp.
