The Onyx Mutation in Canaries

The onyx mutation is autosomal recessive  inherited and appeared in 1986 at the spanish brothers Louis and Fernando Belver LIorens. A displacement of eumelanin towards the inside of the feathers, which enables the colour of the striations and the area in between to be modified and presented more matt, is the typical feature of the onyx mutation. Onyx canaries don’t have phaeomelanin. In black onyx canaries are the striations  similar to the classical black series but of a matt black colour and a sooty effect spread throughout the plumage. The beak, legs and claws are equal black. The brown onyx canaries have a brighter colour than the classical brown canaries. Also here is a sooty effect throughout the plumage present. The striations are similar to the brown classical series but of a matt brown colour. Beak, legs and claws are equal brown. The agate onyx canaries have an ash (cinder) grey coloured background.The striations are similar to the classical agate  canaries but of a dark grey colour. Beak, legs and claws are equal flesh coloured. About the onyx mutation in isabel canaries we have no sufficient results because insufficient examples have been bred.
